Course Outline This one-day SQA Emergency Paediatric First Aid course has been designed for those who have an interest in child and infant basic life support. If you have a professional interest i.e. Nursery and pre-school workers, Nannies and au pairs, Child-minders, Sport and leisure staff, Crèche leader or Parents and anyone responsible for the welfare of children
Paediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children and adolescents from birth to 18 years of age. Emergency Paediatric First Aid at SCQF level 6 is an accredited work-based qualification which will equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to deal with a range of paediatric injuries and emergencies.
DURATION A minimum of six hours makes up this unit consisting of theoretical and practical work
SYLLABUS
A range of subjects is covered including: • Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation • Shock • Assessment of the situation • Minor injuries • Epilepsy • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Anaphylaxis • Wounds and bleeding
CERTIFICATION
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor in respect of the student’s practical ability, along with a multiple choice question paper A three year SQA Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate will be issued subject to assessment.No previous experience is required; however, candidates should have the ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures.
