Unit 1. Emergency First Aid in the Workplace

This Emergency first aid course leads to a national accreditation in Emergency First Aid at Work. This qualification is made up of one unit, and in order to receive this award, you must achieve success in this unit at SCQF Level 6.

 

This qualification is approved by the Health & Safety Executive, and it is also recognised nationally as a Level 6 award in Scotland. Therefore, upon completion of this course, you can be recognised by an employer as an Emergency First Aider towards meeting the employer’s duties under the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, and you may count the qualification accreditation towards your formal general educational development. More importantly, you will be gaining knowledge and competence to administer first aid and basic life to support your role of First Aider in the workplace – an extremely valuable life skill to have for you, as well as friends and family.

Outcomes

Assessment and Certification

Your Assessor will be responsible for determining whether you pass or fail. Assessment is based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course and successful completion of a written test at the end of the course. The Assessor will only award a pass if he/she is satisfied that you have displayed the requisite understanding and competences in respect of each session of the course.

Certification of SQA Emergency First Aid at Work course qualification expires after 3 years. To renew your qualification after 3 years, you will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that, during the 3-year period, you attend annual refresher courses.

 

No previous experience is required; however, candidates should have the ability to cope with stressful and physically demanding emergency procedures.

Please note:

Candidates must be physically able to carry out procedures required to meet assessment criteria (i.e. carry out CPR, Recovery Position, etc on the floor).

This course is offered to the general public which is subject to sufficient required numbers and a decision will be taken 7 days prior to the course start date.
