This 1 day course is to provide staff with the necessary MH skills and knowledge to reduce the risk of musculo-skeletal injuries to themselves and others caused by poor MH practice in the care setting. The course has both theory and practical people handling modules also aim to encourage independence and safety of clients/service users/residents and an approach should be promoted that takes their needs, rights and dignity into account.
Working to a similar SMHP standard these modules relate to a Health & Social Care setting.
The modules cover the following topics:
Module A - Manual Handling Theory
Module B - Manual Handling of Inanimate Loads
Module C - Chair Manoeuvres
Module D - Bed Manoeuvres
Module E – Hoisting
Assessment
To achieve the Moving and Handling of People SMHP the candidate must complete assessment methods as listed below to meet all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Multiple choice question with further opportunity for professional discussion plus practical observation assessment / demonstration.
Successful delegates will receive an Effective Solutions Moving and Handling of People SMHP certificate showing modules completed.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.
